Embedded PL/FPGA Engineer

Xona Space Systems

Xona Space Systems

Posted on Tuesday, May 7, 2024
Description

GNSS (GPS) creates upwards of $500B in economic value in the US every year, supporting everything from consumer applications, to transportation systems, to time sync for critical infrastructure. As these industries progress towards autonomy the performance and security demands of their navigation systems are increasing beyond what GNSS can support, leaving a need for a cost-effective global solution.

Using lessons we've learned at places like SpaceX and Blue Origin, Xona is constructing a modern satellite network at the rapid pace of the new space industry leveraging the recent wave of technology and regulatory advancements. Building on our patent pending small satellite architecture, we are developing a robust and accurate service that is an independent alternative to GNSS rather than a correction, solving the longstanding challenge of obtaining a reliable high accuracy solution from the very fragile GNSS signals. Our satellite system will provide the first ever high-accuracy global navigation and timing services with the security and resilience modern applications need to operate safely at scale.

As an Embedded PL/FPGA Engineer at Xona, you'll play a key role in designing, implementing, and optimizing embedded systems that leverage the power and flexibility of programmable logic devices. From high-performance signal processing to real-time control applications, your expertise will be at the heart of our innovative constellation, driving forward our mission to deliver the next generation of GNSS.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience in FPGA development, including design, implementation, and verification of complex digital systems.
  • Proficiency in hardware description languages (HDL) such as Verilog and VHDL, as well as familiarity with FPGA development tools and methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of digital design concepts, including synchronous and asynchronous logic, finite state machines, clock domain crossing, and timing closure techniques.
  • C/C++ programming experience as part of development flow, from prototyping through verification and test.
  • Experience with embedded platforms with tightly integrated processors and FPGAs, such as PS+PL architectures.
  • Familiarity with git/gitflow.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard development platforms and devices from vendors such as AMD/Xilinx and Intel.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with multidisciplinary teams and external partners to achieve project goals.
  • To comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the United States (i.e. Green Card holder), or other protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).

Desired Qualifications

  • Understanding of radiation-tolerant programmable logic design practices for space/radiation environments.
  • Previous implementation of high-speed digital interfaces between FPGAs and external components.
  • Knowledge of GNSS/GPS transmitters and receivers, and the theory behind their design/implementation.
  • Experience with image deployment to space flight hardware.
  • Knowledge of embedded system verification and validation test methods, including usage of hardware-in-the-loop set-ups.
  • Hands-on lab experience with testing engineering models and flight units.
