THE ROLE
We are seeking a collaborative and proactive Safety Manager to lead compliance, safety, and risk management at our 361k sq. ft. Organic/Non-GMO E-commerce Fulfillment Center in Batesville, Indiana. This leader will drive regulatory compliance, employee engagement, and cultural transformation by strengthening partnerships, overseeing the Safety Committee program, and embedding proactive safety ownership throughout the site. The Safety Manager is accountable for building, maintaining, and continuously improving safety programs, procedures, and standards that protect Thrivers, ensure compliance, and sustain a culture of proactive ownership.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, policies, SOPs, and training tailored to high-volume fulfillment operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, FDA, USDA, Non-GMO/Organic standards, and other applicable regulations.
  • Own the process for creating, updating, and maintaining SOPs and associated training; ensure they reflect regulatory requirements, operational standards, and continuous improvement learnings.
  • Conduct regular audits to verify compliance with procedures, standards, training, and certifications.
  • Collaborate with FC leadership and cross-functional teams to design and deliver SOPs and training that drive best practices in daily operations.
  • Lead structured reviews of SOPs and training materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, and accessibility.
  • Provide coaching, refreshers, and ongoing updates on SOP and training adoption; monitor compliance and update content as regulations or business needs evolve.
  • Serve as the lead facilitator for the Safety Committee program, ensuring consistent structure, representation, and engagement across shifts.
  • Drive accountability through meeting agendas, action trackers, inspections, and closure of corrective actions.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventative action planning.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness drills, site safety stand-downs, and refresher training.
  • Actively engage with Thrivers on the FC floor; lead Gemba walks, safety observations, and behavioral audits.
  • Coach leaders and committee members to model safe behaviors and proactive ownership.
  • Promote recognition of positive safety actions and build a culture of “No Broken Windows” standards by celebrating defect visibility and making decisions driven by science.
  • Track and analyze safety performance (TRIR, near-miss closure, audit results, corrective actions, training completion, and SOP adoption).
  • Provide monthly reporting and insights to FC leadership and corporate stakeholders.
  • Recommend process improvements using data-driven analysis.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • OSHA 30 certification (or ability to obtain within 1 month).
  • 5–7 years of progressive safety experience in distribution, fulfillment, food, or manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated success leading Safety Committee programs or equivalent employee led safety initiatives.
  • Proven ability to partner with local health authorities and emergency response teams.
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, and communication skills with the ability to engage both hourly employees and senior leaders.
  • Experience working directly with FDA, USDA, and other food-related regulatory agencies (preferred).
  • Knowledge of organic and Non-GMO compliance standards (preferred).
  • Must reside or be willing to relocate within a 45-minute drive of Batesville, IN to ensure site coverage and responsiveness.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL EXPECTATIONS

  • Regularly engaged on the FC floor; ability to be on your feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work across ambient, refrigerated, and frozen temperature-controlled zones.

  • OSHA General Industry, Hazard Communication (GHS), Slips/Trips/Falls Prevention, Emergency Action Plans, Lockout/Tagout Awareness, PPE, Ergonomics, CPR/AED, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Active Shooter Preparedness
