LOST iN is searching for a new Editorial Director to lead the development, content production and print production of our LOST iN City Guides, including oversight of all related initiatives. Our travel guidebooks are one of a kind, offering an elegant, design-forward reading experience designed to deliver insight into the the cultural beating heart of each destination. They're lightweight, thoughtfully crafted, and full of tips, recommendations, and storytelling from local tastemakers. More editorially focused than traditional travel guidebooks, LOST iN City Guides feature interviews, photography showcases, original fiction and/ or non-fiction pieces, in addition to listicles and recommendations.

Tasks, duties and functions include:

  • Develop and oversee the editorial direction of our print guidebooks, ensuring alignment with the brand's mission and target audience
  • Plan and manage production timelines, schedules, and editorial calendars to ensure timely publication.
  • Manage and lead the editorial team (prominently freelancers), including writers, editors, photographers, and designers, providing guidance and feedback to ensure high-quality content. Focus on local talent to bring authenticity and fact-checking to the content.
  • Present editorial and creative decisions to the founding team and participate in brainstorming sessions for content strategy and vision.
  • Oversee the online integration of the printed guides as they become digitized for an online editorial
  • Contribute to content creation, including editing, writing, photography, and on-camera work as needed.
  • Edit and approve all content for publication, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and a compelling narrative that resonates with readers.
  • Edit and proofread content for grammar, spelling, and factual accuracy.
  • Coordinate visuals and layouts with the art and design teams.
  • Oversee the editorial budget, managing costs for freelance writers, photographers, and other contributors
  • Stay informed on industry trends, audience preferences, and competitor publications.
  • Maintain relationships with freelancers, contributors, and external partners.
  • Collaborate with marketing and social teams on GTM strategies for the guidebooks.

A qualified candidate for the role should have skills such as:

  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects, timelines, and editorial calendars
  • Strong editorial judgment and experience in content creation, editing, and overseeing publication processes
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills--a keen attention to detail
  • Expertise in working with print deadlines, ensuring that all editorial content is completed, reviewed, and submitted on time for production and publication without compromising quality
  • Experience with managing budgets, especially related to freelance writers, contributors, and content production

A qualified candidate for the role should have qualities such as:

  • A specific attunement to who the LOST iN traveler is and a strong discernment as to what content will align with our audience
  • An ability to identify and relate to trends in contemporary culture, including travel, art, fashion, music, food and more
  • A genuine love of travel, and curiosity for the world, cultures, and destinations
  • A keen eye for accuracy in grammar, style, facts, and visuals, ensuring every piece of content is polished and professional
  • Personable and relatable. This person will be reaching out to and connecting with professional travelers, writers, designers, business owners, locals and more regularly and should be comfortable building connections and working with many different types of people and cultures.
