Test Engineer (Hardware)
Hexium
We are seeking a Test Engineer to drive experimental characterization and automation of our isotope separation systems. The Test Engineer is heavily involved in the R&D process with test fixture design, instrument evaluation, and diagnostic development to validate our design principles. The role is critical to growing our technology from prototype to commercial success.
Responsibilities
- Design and assemble test fixtures for signal conditioning, precision motors, and lifetime testing
- Architect a holistic interface in LabVIEW (Real-Time/FPGA) to unify disparate standalone systems, drivers, and custom hardware.
- Integrate stand-alone systems or drivers into a holistic LabVIEW or FPGA interface.
- Collaborate with the research team to bring manual procedures and adjustments into automated scripts or routines.
- Add and qualify new hardware and instrumentation to the controls system as the design develops.
- Translate raw voltage, current, or waveforms into meaningful insights that inform continuous development.
- Act as the primary resource for debugging instrumentation faults, EMI/noise issues, and complex wiring failures.
- Establish scalable extraction and storage protocols for high-frequency time-series data sets.
- Develop Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulations to validate automation logic in a virtual environment before deployment on high-value hardware.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in test or development setting with advanced instrumentation and data acquisition methods.
- Experience in LabVIEW especially with the Real-Time and FPGA Modules.
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document designs and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work on-site in Austin, TX
- This role will be exposed to export-controlled information and requires compliance with applicable export control laws and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified LabVIEW Developer or Architect
- Experience in a highly technical industry such as aerospace, nuclear, semiconductor, or national laboratories.
- Experience working with lasers and the specific safety/alignment protocols involved
About Hexium
Hexium is an early-stage, science-backed industrial technology company building hardware at the cutting edge of laser science, plasma physics, and atomic physics. We are developing advanced isotope separation technology to support the clean energy industry, with a long-term path toward scaled, commercial systems.
