Job Summary
We are seeking an electrical and control engineer who can apply engineering principles to drive sound technical decisions as the company builds, tests, and scales advanced hardware. In this role you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design and build complex devices that integrate plasma processing, metal vapor deposition, and high-power lasers. The ideal candidate will have significant knowledge and breadth in the electrical and control system space, and take a hands-on role in all aspects of the end-to-end design process.
Job Responsibilities
- Work with a multidisciplinary team to develop, test, and deliver electrical and control hardware, control system software, data acquisition and instrumentation for complex mechatronic equipment.
- Implement system safety features including interlocks and fault-detection.
- Develop PLC programs for automated control and data capture of large test stands and systems.
- Define facility-level electrical requirements, including load calculations, power conditioning, and quality analysis.
- Specify and oversee the implementation of critical power components (transformers, switchgear, power distribution systems).
- Ensure development rigor through design reviews, FMEAs, risk assessments, and mitigation plans.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in electrical system design, automation, and control systems in a highly technical industry such as aerospace, nuclear, automotive, semiconductor processing, or national laboratories.
- 5+ years experience designing, testing, troubleshooting, and debugging electronics hardware and test software
- Hands-on experience with NI systems (CompactDAQ, CompactRIO, PXI) and LabVIEW.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PLC programming and factory automation systems such as Siemens and Allen Bradley, including industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet)
