Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Director of Photography (DoP) to join our team at FaZe Media. The DoP will lead the visual storytelling for our diverse range of projects, including lifestyle content, branded campaigns, vlogs, and short-form social media videos. This role requires a visionary leader with expertise in cinematography and a passion for crafting visually striking content that resonates with our audience. The DoP will collaborate closely with directors, producers, and creative teams to bring FaZe Media’s bold aesthetic to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Visual Style Development: Collaborate with directors and creative teams to define and execute the visual tone, style, and aesthetic for each project, ensuring alignment with FaZe Media’s brand identity.
- Cinematography Leadership: Oversee all aspects of cinematography, including camera work, lighting design, shot composition, and camera movement, to create high-quality, engaging visuals.
- Equipment Management: Select, test, and maintain camera and lighting equipment, ensuring the right tools are used to achieve desired results. Manage equipment budgets and coordinate rentals when necessary.
- Crew Supervision: Lead and direct camera and lighting crews, including camera operators, gaffers, and grips, providing clear instructions on shot setup, framing, and execution.
- Pre-Production Planning: Work with directors and producers to create shot lists, storyboards, and mood boards. Scout locations to ensure optimal lighting and environmental conditions for filming.
- Post-Production Collaboration: Partner with editors and colorists to ensure the final product maintains visual consistency and adheres to the creative vision. Provide input on color grading, effects, and editing to enhance the footage.
- Technical Expertise: Stay up-to-date with the latest cinematography technologies, including cameras, lenses, and editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve), to push creative boundaries.
- Creative Problem-Solving: Address on-set challenges related to lighting, framing, or equipment to ensure production goals are met while maintaining high standards.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in film, cinematography, photography, or a related field preferred but not required with equivalent experience.
- Experience: 3-5 years of professional experience as a Director of Photography, cinematographer, or similar role in media production, with a strong portfolio showcasing work in digital media, commercials, or gaming/esports content.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with professional camera systems (e.g., RED, ARRI, Sony, Canon) and lenses.
- Expertise in lighting techniques and equipment (e.g., LED panels, softboxes, fresnels).
- Knowledge of video editing and color grading software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Photoshop).
- Familiarity with emerging technologies like drones, gimbals, and 360-degree cameras is a plus.
- Creative Skills: Strong understanding of composition, color theory, and visual storytelling, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics.
- Leadership & Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills to manage crews and collaborate with creative teams. Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
- Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing project requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience producing content for YouTube, TikTok, or other social media platforms.
- Knowledge of how tailoring composition for different platforms – framing for YouTube vs other digital platforms (e.g. TikTok, X, SNAP, IG, etc)
- Familiarity with live event production, such as streaming or broadcast cinematography.
- Network of industry contacts for crew and equipment sourcing.
